RECOVERY AREAS 2026–27:
Nature-based Recovery and Water Landscapes
Transforming the partly wild and currently insufficiently accessible water area into an inclusive space for recovery, recreation and wellbeing. The project may include barrier-free eco-trails, walking and cycling routes, viewing platforms, modular eco-houses, water-based activities, ecological landscaping, renewable energy, water reuse systems and spaces for local services and craft producers. The first phase is envisioned as a practical pilot that can later be expanded and replicated.

Housing Transformation and Neighbourhood Regeneration
Strategic approach to transforming large and diverse housing stock, particularly aging Soviet-era multi-apartment buildings with outdated engineering systems and high energy consumption. The community aims to move beyond fragmented repairs towards coordinated renovation, energy modernisation, redevelopment and neighbourhood regeneration. The project should also support affordable housing, resident participation, responsible land use and sustainable long-term housing management.

Community Wellbeing and Veteran Reintegration
Creating a demonstration territory where veteran recovery is integrated with housing, meaningful work, education, nature and community life. The concept includes accessible residential and recovery modules, psychological and physical support spaces, workshops, adaptive sports, gardens, an apiary, production areas, family accommodation and a barrier-free shelter. The project is intended to support veterans while also creating employment, social enterprise and local development opportunities.

Culture, Education and Future Skills
Explore how learning environments can prepare children, youth and communities for a more sustainable future. The focus is on practical environmental education, climate awareness, biodiversity, responsible resource use and hands-on learning that connects knowledge with everyday life. These spaces can become living laboratories where future skills are developed through experience, participation and interaction with nature.

All six cases combine a universal recovery challenge with a real municipal pilot and can be adapted by other Ukrainian communities.
As a result of the Hackathon, teams should develop an integrated proposal for the selected case. It should include a spatial and architectural concept, inclusive and environmental solutions, a phased implementation plan, a governance and partnership model, financing logic and replication potential.
